BUET students to hold special prayer on National Mourning Day
Following the ban on student politics in the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) after the killing of Abrar Fahad, the students of BUET staged a protest at the seminar auditorium of the BUET on Saturday evening for organizing a program by the 'Ex-Chhatra League Leaders of BUET'. Since then, many leaders and activists of Chhatra League, Jubo League and Awami League have been giving status on social media by calling the students anti-independence, anti-Bangabandhu, collaborators of the killers of 1971.
In such a situation, on Monday (August 15) on the occasion of National Mourning Day, the general students announced to hold a discussion meeting and prayer meeting under the banner of 'general students'.
In a press conference held in front of BUET Auditorium on Sunday (August 14), the students said that a commemoration meeting has been organized on the occasion of the National Mourning Day by the general students in the cafeteria on Monday at 5 pm.
In a written statement, BUET students said that a discussion meeting and special prayer was organized on the occasion of the death anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman under the banner of 'Bangladesh Chhatra League, former leaders of BUET' in the seminar room of the BUET auditorium building. It should be noted here that on October 11, 2019, the administration banned the activities of all kinds of political organizations in BUET. According to administrative law, BUET current and former students, administrative and academic staff are required to comply with this ban.
They also said, "At the same time, in a written application to the Vice-Chancellor, permission has been requested to hold a prayer meeting at BUET Central Mosque. All administrative and academic staff, current and past students of BUET are invited on this occasion. In addition, a warm invitation to the freedom fighters, the nation's best sons and daughters. We need your cooperation to complete this event properly.”
They declared, 'The common students of BUET are always ready to ensure the safety of the campus by preventing all forms of discriminatory subculture and abuse of power inconsistent with morals'.
